Over 50 nominations came in from all over the country from youth, adult amateurs, peers, employers and barn staff telling Equine Canada why each coach was doing a great job and deserved to be awarded.
The Equine Canada Coaching Excellence Awards were also presented for the first time this year at the Gala. The Excellence Awards recognize those who have made significant contributions to the development of Equine Canada coaching or rider programs.

A beautiful fall day was the perfect backdrop for the 1st A nnual Stonecroft Fall Classic held in Mount Albert on October 22, 2011. Exhibitors and spectators were treated to a fabulous competition, complete with complimentary coffee, BBQ hamburgers, homemade chili and sides provided by the Stonecroft Fall Classic committee. The Hunting Horn was trumpeted as Morgans and Saddlebred s were escorted int o the Ring by Master Cliff Haines , complete with his top hat, red coat, breeches and boots. Nathalie Langstaedtler - EC Breed Sport Saddle Seat Rider Of The Year - 2011
My love of riding and horses was sparked by my father, Roger Poulin, who purchased our first Morgan horse in 1979. He founded Kimlina Morgan Farm where I learned to ride, entering the world of saddle seat riding competition at the age of 6 in a Walk Trot Class wearing a saddle suit sewn by my grandma, riding a broodmare pulled from the pasture. We left the ring with the red ribbon and trophy in hand – I was hooked!

Throughout my childhood, youth and adulthood, Morgan horses and saddle seat riding have played a large role. I continued to compete in local, national and eventually international competition, most often in the saddle seat division, garnering numerous ribbons, victory passes, and high point awards.
After finishing high school, I traveled to Germany to train Morgan horses. While there, I demonstrated saddle seat riding to many who had never seen the style at large venues such as Equitana. It was also while riding Morgans in Germany that I met my future husband. After returning to Canada, I continued my amateur riding career at my father’s Kimlina Morgan Farm. My husband and I also began our small horse farm under the name Grandview Acres. Together with my friend, trainer and instructor Sonja Lorenson of Cold Creek Inc., I have continued to do what I love most – ride and show Morgan horses.
This year was the highlight of my riding career. After a strong season with the 4 horses I exhibited in Canada and the USA, it was decided that 2 of our horses were competitive enough to make the trip to the Morgan World Championships in Oklahoma City, USA. Incredibly and for the first time in my life, I enjoyed not just 1, but 4 victory passes! My childhood dreams had come true - at the age of 40! My mare BMF Whisper of Love and I are the 2011 World Champion Classic Pleasure Saddle Ladies pair. We won both of our qualifying Grand National Championships (1 of them unanimously) on our way to the roses. My father’s horse Miz Scarlett and I unanimously claimed the Reserve World Champion Classic Pleasure Junior Horse title.
I plan to ride horses, especially saddle seathorses, until I simply cannot get into that cut back saddle any longer – and I hope that is not for many, many, many years come!
Thank you for recognizing saddle seat riding and honoring me and my horses with this award.
